Do you know that moment when you’re amazed by the agility and speed with which someone performs a manual task? That’s precisely how you’ll feel when observing the Arte Xávega fishermen working with their fishing nets.

While this art is not as widely practiced as it once was, the traditions of this craft have not been lost.

You cannot miss witnessing this work in action when you’re in the Aveiro Region, particularly in the municipalities of Murtosa or Vagos (where Arte Xávega is still practiced).

Three beaches should be on your itinerary: Areão and Vagueira (in Vagos) and Torreira (in Murtosa).

When? While the netting work happens throughout the year, the fishermen regularly engage in it from November to March.
